Alan November visiting Viktor Rydberg Schools
On September 4th all the teachers within Viktor Rydberg Schools were giving the opportunity to listen to an important lecture by Alan November.
We had the privilege of hosting Alan November (@globallearner) as our guest speaker for this term’s foundation-wide professional development day. As part of our ongoing mission to continually improve teaching and learning in our organisation, Alan talked about the importance of realising the risk of remaining in our bubble even when searching the internet for information. He demonstrated some very practical tips on how to (and how not to!) search google for less biased information.
The importance of learning how to ask interesting and relevant questions was another theme that Alan touched on multiple times, both for teachers and for students. Alan challenged us as an organisation to think (rethink?) how we introduce our students to our schools and subjects, how to help them become more independent learners and to consider if our assignments and assessments are relevant given the digital, internet age we are now living in.
