Effective study strategies can reduce stress and help students be ready "to learn something new"

8 november, 2015

Year 1 students have a lot to cope with … a new school campus, a new course-organized learnmoresystem, 8 – 9 new teachers, as well as 500 new friends. Beyond these aspects, students are already beginning to wonder – what is next?  University, travel, career – are all questions year 1 students ponder.  Given this and the pressure to perform well from day one, effective study strategies are key to success.

We believe these strategies are skills that need to be practiced.  Therefore, each year during the second quarter of school, mentors and year 1 students work through a structured study strategy program under the guidance of Anna Tebelius Bodin.

The program consists of a specific training workshop for year 1 mentors, an introductory workshop with Anna for year 1 students, a six-week intensive training program during mentor time, a
follow-up workshop with Anna in year 2, as well as individual follow-up between student and mentor throughout all three years.

Focused on brain-based learning, Anna’s study strategy program focuses on:

– how we learnhow we learn

– reflection

– self-awareness

-”mind over matter”/motivation

specific skills to make you study smarter

Throughout this school year, we are focused on how to help students be ready ”to learn something new”.  This is just one of the steps in that process.
